Home Diversity & Inclusion

We want Southpaw to do awesome work and be an awesome place to work — for everyone.

We want it to be an organization where people feel safe to be their authentic selves at work (our study of 1,000 Black Americans found that only 11% do).

We allow grace and space for employees, vendors and clients to be their complete selves.

Beyond just making a statement, Southpaw is committed to incorporating diversity and inclusion into all aspects of our business. Here’s what we are doing right now, but this list is ever-evolving and we would welcome any additional ideas!

We’re building a diverse team.

Our CFO, Research Director, Research Manager, and Operations Manager are all women of color. We are always looking for smart and skilled people of all backgrounds and identities to be part of our Southpaw family!

We support diverse businesses.

24% of our eligible spend goes to certified diverse suppliers.

We donate to organizations that support racial justice and structural change.

Organizations we have supported in the past include The Loveland Foundation and RAPP.

We require annual bystander intervention training for all employees.

We support Right to Be! Please check them out — they are doing amazing work.

We amplify the stories of marginalized groups.

This includes an evaluation of a re-entry program for formerly incarcerated older New Yorkers, a survey of voters with disabilities, and a large-scale community research project to inform policy on Native land.
